New Affiliates: Make Sure to do THIS for at Least 30 Minutes a Day

Recently I forwarded an internet chat with author and publicity guru Mitch Joel to a friend of mine who greatly admires his work. In the chat, Joel mentions how much he likes Google Reader as a tool that keeps him up to date on new content on the web. Personally, I Love RSS readers and Google Reader is my favourite. I have been using it now for over three years. If you are a new affiliate who does not have much time to read anything else in between your day job, personal life and social activities, then an RSS reader is a great way to save time in a busy schedule.

When entering the world of affiliate marketing, it can be hard to stay abreast of new information in the industry. This is why setting up a reader and putting aside 30 minutes to an hour every day to read content can help. You benefit from becoming more knowledgeable about affiliate marketing and learning new information that should aim to help your business. RSS readers are the ideal tool if your time is already in short supply.

Feedly is an RSS reader for iPad usersLike I mentioned above, I have a penchant for Google Reader. It’s a great tool that I use every morning when I’ve finished checking email messages. If Google Reader is not your cup of tea, there are other valuable RSS readers out there that can be of use. If you’re an iPad user for instance, there are apps like Flipboard, Pulse and Reader that can be downloaded and used to aggregate your preferred content. Additionally, Feedly is accessible to iPad users and those who prefer to use it as an add-on for browsers like Firefox or Chrome.

Once you have chosen your preferred reader, you need to find your favorite feeds of blogs, news sites and online magazines you value. As a new affiliate, you should be browsing through important headlines from the sites of new media and online marketing strategists as well as expert affiliate marketers, such as Shawn Collins, Geno Prussakov, Chris Brogan, and even sites like, Adotas, and, which are excellent resources for news and trends on what is happening in the online marketing world.

Additionally, you might consider subscribing to content that is in line with the niche industry in which you want to promote specific products. As an example, in June 2009, 61% of Americans turned to the internet for information on health, and looked for reviews of online doctors and health institutions, and to comment about their own personal experiences as a patient. If you are thinking of starting a health blog, then it would be a great idea to add a category in your reader so you can subscribe to sites related to women’s health, men’s health, and health blogs about the elderly and online publications about health information for children.

Already fewer North Americans are actually reading content that is more than 140 characters. However, RSS readers help people stay in tune with news and current trends. If you have a favourite reader or site you subscribe to, tell us about it below in the comments section.
